Arunachal: Education Minister PD Sona Inaugurates Modern School Building at Government HSS Mebo in East Siang
Northeast Desk, 18th September: In a significant move to uplift the state’s educational infrastructure, Education Minister PD Sona inaugurated a new, state-of-the-art building at Government Higher Secondary School (HSS) Mebo on Tuesday. The new facility replaces the old SPT building, which had stood since 1956, marking a key milestone in the government’s efforts to enhance the educational landscape.
The inauguration, held in the Mebo Sub-Division of East Siang, was attended by Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng and other dignitaries. Minister Sona emphasized the importance of quality infrastructure in creating an academic environment conducive to student success, urging the community to preserve the new assets. “Good school infrastructure plays a critical role in fostering a suitable learning atmosphere,” he stated, while also expressing gratitude to those involved in the project’s completion.
The event is part of Sona’s broader district tour, following the Chintan Shivir cum consultative meeting, aimed at addressing educational sector challenges across the state. Sona reiterated the government’s focus on identifying infrastructure gaps and implementing best practices to revitalize the state’s education system. He also acknowledged Pasighat’s leadership in advancing higher and professional education in Arunachal Pradesh.
Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng commended the government’s proactive measures, noting that infrastructure improvements, rationalization of teachers, and school mergers will have long-lasting positive impacts. He affirmed his commitment to supporting further advancements in the sector.
Prior to the inauguration, Sona chaired a coordination meeting at IGJ Higher Secondary School in Pasighat, where key stakeholders discussed follow-up actions from the recent Chintan Shivir. Pasighat East MLA Tapi Darang advocated for the establishment of hostel facilities and the deployment of subject teachers to meet the district’s growing educational needs.
The meeting, attended by former MLAs, senior officials, and community representatives, underscored the state government’s ongoing commitment to elevating primary and elementary education through infrastructural and policy interventions.
