Itanagar: Papum Pare District Commissioner Jiken Bomjen undertook a crucial inspection of a severely eroded site adjacent to the Gyan Mission Orphanage School, a revered institution now grappling with acute soil instability. This visit underscores the administration’s heightened vigilance concerning illicit earth-cutting activities and the natural calamities imperilling vulnerable establishments, especially amid the relentless monsoon downpour.
The orphanage, precariously situated in a landslide-prone zone, has witnessed escalating erosion with each spell of rain. During his on-site assessment, DC Bomjen offered reassurances of immediate relief measures and committed to a diligent, ongoing monitoring of the predicament.
Beyond the immediate crisis, the commissioner seized the opportunity to champion the cause of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) among private enterprises. While inaugurating a new kitchen facility at the orphanage, he made an impassioned plea to local businesses to extend their support to welfare organisations dedicated to underprivileged children.
Addressing broader district-wide concerns, Bomjen issued a stern caution regarding the burgeoning drug menace, urging the youth to prioritise their health and education above substance abuse. He acknowledged the profound grassroots endeavours spearheaded by Yasi Nalo Byaling, the Chairperson of the Gyan Mission Orphanage, who has remarkably sustained the school’s operations without governmental assistance.
The school, which fully established itself in 2010 after its inception in a rented space in 2006, continues its noble mission of educating orphans and children from below poverty line (BPL) families. Operating with rudimentary infrastructure and devoid of official backing, the institution now confronts a fresh existential threat in the form of encroaching landslides.
Ms. Byaling has made a fervent appeal to both the state government and the general public for urgent intervention, soliciting not only structural safeguards for the school grounds but also enduring support for the welfare of its young residents. The district administration has commenced site assessments, and further decisive actions are anticipated as the monsoon season advances.
