Arunachal Farmers to Benefit from Medicinal Plant Cultivation Deal
Itanagar: Farmers in Arunachal Pradesh are set to unlock new economic opportunities following a strategic agreement between Kirat Biotech Private Limited and Koje Janggo MAP Farmer Producer Company (FPC).
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on March 20, focuses on the cultivation, processing, and marketing of medicinal and aromatic plants, offering a sustainable income source for local cultivators.
Under the agreement, FPC members will allocate land for organic cultivation of select medicinal plants, aromatic herbs, and spices. Kirat Biotech has assured a full buyback of all harvested produce at prevailing market rates, ensuring financial security for participating farmers. Additionally, the company will provide technical guidance, supply high-quality planting materials, and assist in obtaining necessary permits and documentation to streamline operations.
“This partnership represents a significant step towards sustainable agriculture and rural development in Arunachal Pradesh. We are committed to empowering local farmers and promoting the cultivation of high-quality medicinal plants,” said Pramila Choudhury, Co-Founder and Director of Kirat Biotech.
Yasan Darang, Managing Director of Koje Janggo MAP FPC, emphasized the project’s impact, stating, “This collaboration will provide our members with a stable market for their produce and encourage the adoption of organic farming practices, benefiting both our communities and the environment.”
The initiative is expected to enhance rural livelihoods while supporting environmental conservation and biodiversity preservation in Arunachal Pradesh. Taben Tamut, Director of Public Relations, highlighted the long-term benefits, noting that the partnership aligns with the region’s vision for sustainable agricultural growth and economic self-reliance.
