Arunachal Forest Team Frees Elephant Calf from Muddy Ordeal
Itanagar: A heartwarming tale of resilience and community spirit emerged from Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district as forest personnel, aided by local villagers, successfully rescued an elephant calf trapped in a muddy pit for nearly two days. The collaborative effort, which unfolded on July 6 in the Deomali forest division, saw the young pachyderm safely reunited with its natural habitat. The rescue operation, a two-hour intense endeavour, highlighted the swift response of officials following information from concerned villagers, culminating in the calf being gently guided back into the verdant forest.
This comes on the heels of another successful elephant reunion in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. Dr. Sonali Ghosh, Field Director of Kaziranga, reported that a forest patrol team, alerted by Borjuri Basti residents in Bokakhat around 4 AM on July 5, managed to reunite an elephant calf with its mother. The calf had inadvertently separated from its herd as they traversed back into the park via the Veroni corridor, prompting the timely intervention by the rescue team.
