Arunachal: Former Mariyang-Geku MLA Olom Panyang Receives Warm Welcome as BJP Candidate
Northeast Desk, 17th March: Former Mariyang-Geku MLA Olom Panyang was warmly welcomed by his party members and well-wishers at the Ruksin entry gate of East Siang district today, following his nomination as the BJP MLA candidate for the upcoming Assembly election.
Expressing his gratitude for being given the BJP ticket, Panyang thanked the state BJP president and other party leaders for trusting him to lead the party in the 40th Mariyang-Geku Assembly Constituency. He appealed to his voters and supporters to rally behind him, pledging to continue his developmental work and address long-standing issues in the constituency, particularly focusing on road connectivity and infrastructure development.
Regarding the contentious issue of the mega hydropower project construction over the Siang River, Panyang emphasized the importance of public consensus, especially among the landowners. He stated that the government should respect the decision of the people, indicating that the construction of dams should not be imposed without community approval.
Notably, Panyang was not given a BJP ticket in the last 2019 election, despite his previous tenure as a BJP MLA since 2014. However, with his nomination this time, the BJP appears to have rectified its past oversight and is gearing up to face strong competition from other parties and candidates, particularly Oni Panyang, an MLA candidate from the 40th Mariyang-Geku constituency, who reportedly enjoys significant public support.
