Arunachal Government Suspends Weekly Markets in West Kameng to Strengthen ILP Enforcement
Itanagar: In a decisive step to bolster the enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh has ordered the immediate suspension of all weekly markets within the administrative boundaries of West Kameng District.
The move, aimed at tightening entry regulations and safeguarding demographic integrity, follows a high-level meeting held on April 30, 2025, chaired by the Hon’ble Minister (Home), Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
According to the official directive, all existing permits and licenses previously granted to individuals, vendors, and associations for conducting weekly markets have been revoked with immediate effect. The suspension applies across all colonies, sectors, and localities within the district, and authorities have been instructed to ensure complete compliance until further orders are issued.
The order carries a stern warning: any individual or group found violating the directive will face stringent administrative and legal action under relevant statutory provisions. The responsibility for enforcement lies squarely with the Superintendent of Police, West Kameng District, who has been directed to execute the order uncompromisingly in both letter and spirit.
This enforcement measure forms part of a broader strategic initiative to fortify the ILP mechanism, which plays a crucial role in regulating the movement of non-residents into Arunachal Pradesh and preserving its unique cultural and demographic fabric.
