Arunachal Governor and First Lady Celebrate World Environment Day
Northeast Desk, 5th June: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General KT Parnaik, and the First Lady of the State, Anagha Parnaik, participated in World Environment Day celebrations at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar, on June 5th, 2024.
This year’s theme, ‘Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,’ guided the event’s activities. The Governor and the First Lady planted saplings of Lal Chandan or Red Sandalwood within the Raj Bhavan premises, symbolizing their commitment to environmental conservation.
During the event, Governor Parnaik emphasized the intrinsic connection the people of Arunachal Pradesh share with nature, advocating for a harmonious balance between development and conservation efforts. He urged the public to continue their endeavors in preserving the environment, stressing the importance of healthy ecosystems for the planet’s well-being.
Governor Parnaik highlighted the manifold benefits of ecosystem restoration, including improved livelihoods, disease control, and reduced risks of natural disasters. He underscored the significance of ecosystem restoration in achieving Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing the need for collective action in this regard.
Interacting with staff and officials of the Environment and Forests Department at Raj Bhavan, the Governor commended their efforts and encouraged them to maintain cleanliness, greenery, and a plastic-free environment in the Raj Bhavan area and the State Capital.
The participation of the Governor and the First Lady in World Environment Day celebrations reflects Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to environmental sustainability and underscores the importance of individual and collective action in safeguarding the planet for future generations.
