Arunachal: Indian Army Launches Motorcycle Expedition to Commemorate 62nd Anniversary of the Battle of Walong
Itanagar: The Indian Army launched a motorcycle expedition from Mipi to Meshai in Arunachal Pradesh to mark the 62nd anniversary of the historic Battle of Walong, fought during the 1962 Indo-China War.
The expedition was inaugurated by Major General VS Deshpande, General Officer Commanding of the Dao Division, alongside Anini MLA Mopi Mihu and other Arunachal Pradesh government officials. The journey serves as a tribute to the brave soldiers who defended the nation during the conflict.
Participants, including armed forces personnel and local residents, will traverse a challenging route through the Mishmi Ranges, Dibang, and Lohit Valleys, with the final destination being the Walong War Memorial on November 11. The journey highlights the region’s historical significance and showcases its scenic beauty.
Cultural performances and a martial arts display marked the inauguration, celebrating the rich heritage of Arunachal Pradesh. The route includes stops at Roing and Hayuliang to foster connections with local communities and promote national unity, as well as adventure tourism in the border areas.
The Army emphasized the expedition’s role in promoting national integration and recognizing the resilience of Arunachal Pradesh’s people, who stood with the armed forces during the 1962 war. The expedition will conclude with a flagging-in ceremony at the Walong War Memorial, where the motorcyclists will pay homage to the fallen soldiers.
This initiative underscores the Army’s commitment to preserving the nation’s heritage and strengthening ties with border communities.
