Arunachal: Itanagar Capital Region Halts All Weekly Markets

Itanagar: The Itanagar Capital Region district administration has cracked down on all local weekly markets, ordering their immediate closure. This decisive move comes on the heels of resolutions passed during a high-level meeting on April 30, 2025, chaired by the Hon’ble Minister of Home, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

The directive, issued under Order No. DC/ICC/Jud-01/2025, aligns with clear instructions from the Home Department, which had earlier reiterated a statewide suspension of weekly markets.

Despite these unequivocal orders, the Google Daily Market in Chimpu was found to be operating, effectively flouting the ban. The administration has now explicitly included this market under the purview of the ongoing suspension.

Consequently, no weekly markets will be permitted to operate in any sector, colony, or locality across the Itanagar Capital Region. Authorities have warned of strict administrative and legal action against any violations of this directive.

To ensure stringent enforcement, the Superintendent of Police for Itanagar and Naharlagun, along with Extra Assistant Commissioners and the Circle Officer of Banderdewa, have been instructed to take prompt and necessary action.
