Arunachal: Itanagar Police Arrest Drug-Peddling Couple, Seize 13.20 Grams of Heroin in Major Operation

Itanagar: In a significant breakthrough in the battle against drug trafficking, Itanagar Police arrested a habitual drug-peddling couple and seized 13.20 grams of heroin from their possession. The operation, based on reliable intelligence, demonstrates the continued commitment of the Itanagar police in addressing the growing drug abuse problem in the region.

On February 3, 2025, the Itanagar Police received crucial intelligence about the movement of drug peddlers in the area. A team, led by Inspector Khiksi Yangfo (OC PS Itanagar) and other officers, including Inspector Takhe Tasso, SI Kentar Tacha, Ct. Nabam Chakum, LCT. M. Bame, Ct. Passang Norbu, and Sandeep Yadav, swiftly carried out a raid under the supervision of Shri Kengo Dirchi, SDPO Itanagar.

The operation led to the arrest of Tadar Naham (24), a resident of Langloth village in Kurung Kumey District, and his partner Kenna Perme (24), from Mebo village in East Siang District. The couple was found in possession of 10 plastic vials containing heroin.

During questioning, the duo confessed to being regular drug users for the past three years and revealed that they had been sourcing the heroin from Assam and distributing it in Itanagar for monetary gain.

Both suspects have been charged under Section 21(a)/27 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and have been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.

The swift and efficient action taken by the police was praised by Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS, SP Itanagar, who recognized the efforts of the officers involved. He assured that suitable rewards would be provided to the team for their role in tackling drug trafficking.

The Itanagar Capital Police, as part of its ongoing “DAWN” mission, remains focused on eliminating drug abuse and trafficking, urging citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to ensure a safer, drug-free society.
