Arunachal: Itanagar Police Clamp Down on ILP Violators, 39 Detained
Itanagar: In a significant breakthrough, Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) police on Sunday, July 14, detained 39 individuals for residing or working without valid Inner Line Permits (ILPs), a clear violation of Section 3 of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) Act, 1873. This marks a major stride in the ongoing enforcement drive aimed at upholding the crucial regulation.
The extensive operation was carried out under the direct supervision of Dr. Nyelam Nega, Superintendent of Police, ICR Naharlagun. The coordinated effort spanned areas under Banderdewa, Naharlagun, and Papu Hills police stations, with teams meticulously checking labour camps, worksites, roadside establishments, and various township zones in Banderdewa, Karsingsa, Naharlagun, and Papu Hills.
At Banderdewa Police Station, a Non-FIR case (No. 05/2025) was registered following a report by SI Nani Bagang. Three individuals, identified as Gobinda Sarkar, Rabindra Sarkar, and Hriday Biswas, were apprehended for not possessing valid ILPs and subsequently produced before the Executive Magistrate. The team leading this successful operation was headed by Inspector Kipa Hamak, ably assisted by C/ H.C.P. Guna and Ct. Hichik Tanik.
Meanwhile, in Naharlagun, a Non-FIR case (No. 30/2025) was registered against 30 individuals who were found without valid ILPs during a dedicated checking drive. This drive was spearheaded by Inspector Krishnendu Dev and ASI Iter Ngomdir, with all accused promptly detained and processed as per legal provisions.
Similarly, at Papu Hills, six individuals were identified as ILP violators, leading to the registration of a Non-FIR case (No. 14/2025). The enforcement team in Papu Hills was led by Inspector Tarun Mai, and the violators were duly forwarded to the Executive Magistrate.
All detentions were conducted in strict adherence to legal procedures. The ICR police underscored the absolute necessity of ILPs for all non-residents and issued a stern warning to employers, urging them to strictly comply with these regulations. Authorities further affirmed their commitment to continuing such enforcement drives in the future, emphasizing their dedication to upholding the law and safeguarding the demographic integrity of Arunachal Pradesh.
