Arunachal: Itanagar Police Crack Down on Illegal Gambling, Eight Arrested
Itanagar: Itanagar Police have arrested eight individuals in a major crackdown on illegal gambling, following multiple complaints from the public about unlawful activities at Nyokum grounds and other locations in the city.
The operation, led by Inspector Khiksi Yangfo (OC, Itanagar PS) and Inspector Takhe Tasso (2nd OC, Itanagar PS), was conducted under the supervision of SDPO Itanagar, Shri Kengo Dirchi.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the police carried out a series of targeted raids. On the night of February 18, two individuals were apprehended at Nyokum Lapang with gambling paraphernalia. The following day, four more suspects were caught red-handed engaging in gambling near Ganga Daily Market. Later in the evening, another raid at Nyokum Ground, Jollang, led to the arrest of two individuals found organizing dice gambling.
Authorities have registered three separate cases at Itanagar Police Station under the Arunachal Pradesh Gambling Prohibition Act, citing violations under Sections 3 and 4 of the law. The cases, filed under numbers 22/25, 23/25, and 24/25, mark a firm stance against unlawful gambling activities in the city.
Lauding the swift enforcement action, SP Itanagar, Shri Rajbir Singh (IPS), praised the police team’s efforts in maintaining law and order. He reiterated the commitment of the Itanagar Capital Police to crack down on illegal activities and ensure public safety. With a heightened focus on enforcement, authorities have warned against any further violations and urged citizens to report suspicious activities to aid in the ongoing fight against unlawful gambling.
