Arunachal: Landslide Buries School Bus in Itanagar Amid Monsoon Disruptions
Northeast Desk, 29th June: A school bus was engulfed by a landslide on the Ganga to Jullang road in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, on June 29, following heavy rainfall. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, yet the incident has heightened concerns over the safety of transportation routes during the ongoing monsoon season.
The landslide is part of a broader pattern of disruptions caused by persistent rain across the state. Officials today confirmed that surface communication to multiple districts in Arunachal Pradesh has been severed due to numerous landslides. A critical segment from Aalo in West Siang district to Mechukha in Shi-Yomi district suffered severe damage between Roing and Pene villages.
Similar incidents have been documented at various other locations. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has mobilized personnel and equipment to clear affected roads, as reported by the District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO). Efforts are underway to restore access, with expectations that the blockade will be lifted by Saturday evening for light motor vehicles, contingent upon improved weather conditions.
Furthermore, heavy rainfall has also caused significant damage to the Pasighat-Pangin-Aalo road near Tarak village in Siang district, resulting in multiple vehicles being stranded. The persistent downpour has exacerbated challenges for residents and travelers in the region, highlighting the vulnerability to natural calamities during the monsoon period.
