Arunachal: Man Feared Swept Away While Fishing
Bana – A pall of anxiety hangs over Bana Circle in Arunachal Pradesh’s Bichom District after Kapong Yame, a local resident, reportedly went missing on Monday afternoon, feared swept away by the fierce currents of a river near the Bana Bridge while fishing.
The unfortunate incident unfolded around 3:30 PM, triggering an immediate flurry of activity from local rescue teams. Despite their tireless efforts, Yame remains untraced, with search operations continuing into Tuesday. Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted the sheer force of the water, suggesting it was a critical factor in the unfolding tragedy.
In a plea resonating with the community’s anguish, Sad Kalo Yame, the Gram Panchayat Chairperson of the area, has urgently appealed to the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO). Her request is precise: to temporarily halt or regulate water discharge from the nearby dam. She underscored the vital importance of such a measure, not just to aid the ongoing rescue mission but also to avert any future mishaps. Meanwhile, local authorities have issued a stern advisory, urging residents and visitors to steer clear of riverbanks, particularly when water levels are high due to dam releases. They have also emphasised the pressing need for more stringent safety protocols around the treacherous area.
