Northeast Desk, 8th September: A massive fire swept through the Type 3 Colony of Abotani Colony in Seppa, East Kameng district, on the evening of September 7, 2024. The blaze, which started around 7 PM, rapidly engulfed more than 200 meters of the area, destroying approximately 20 houses and leaving six families homeless.

Four fire tenders were deployed to battle the inferno, working relentlessly through the night to bring the situation under control. East Kameng Deputy Commissioner Sachin Rana immediately initiated rescue efforts, ensuring the safety of the affected residents.

Although the cause of the fire remains under investigation, early reports suggest a possible cylinder explosion as the spark that ignited the blaze. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, though the property damage is estimated to be in crores.

By 6 AM the following morning, Seppa East MLA Ealing Tallang visited the scene to assess the extent of the destruction. He confirmed that 17 houses were completely burned down, displacing multiple families. Three families have been temporarily relocated to a relief camp established at LBSVN School by the district administration.

MLA Tallang commended the swift response of the district administration and the fire service department for their coordinated efforts in containing the fire and assisting the displaced families.
