Arunachal: Massive Fire Devastates Pasighat Vegetable Market, 108 Shops Destroyed
Itanagar: A massive fire broke out at the Pasighat vegetable market near IGJ Higher Secondary School and the airport area on Tuesday evening, causing widespread destruction.
The blaze, which started around 9 PM, engulfed the market’s vegetable and clothing sheds, reducing them to ashes before the Fire Service team managed to extinguish it.
Preliminary reports indicate that 108 shops were destroyed, leaving business owners, who primarily sold vegetables, spices, fruits, clothes, groceries, and footwear, devastated. The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, according to eyewitness accounts.
A standing board, including Chairman Olak Apang and officials from Electrical and PHED departments, Fire Services, Police Station, and the District Disaster Management Office (DDMO), inspected the site to assess the damage and provide guidance to the affected vendors.
Shopkeepers were advised to submit essential documents, such as trading licenses, bank passbooks, and Aadhar cards, to the DDMO’s office to facilitate swift government relief assistance. The fire has left the community in shock, as efforts are underway to support the victims and rebuild the market.
