Arunachal: Migrant worker allegedly killed in mob lynching in Kerala; 10 Arrested

Northeast Desk, 6th April: A shocking case of suspected mob lynching unfolded in Kerala’s Muvattupuzha, where ten individuals have been apprehended following the alleged beating to death of a migrant worker two days prior.

The victim, identified as Asok Das, a 24-year-old hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, tragically lost his life in the incident, as confirmed by local authorities.

Das, who had migrated to the southern state in search of employment, had been residing in a rented accommodation in Valakam, near Muvattupuzha.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Das was confronted and interrogated by a group of locals, who allegedly tied him to a pole upon his visit to a female friend residing in the vicinity on Thursday evening.

Following the interrogation, Das was transferred to a nearby general hospital before being referred to Kolencherry Medical College Hospital for further treatment. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday while undergoing medical care, as outlined in the FIR.

Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Das endured severe physical assault at the hands of the locals, resulting in his untimely demise.

In response to the tragic incident, law enforcement authorities have taken swift action, arresting ten individuals in connection with the case. Initially registered under Section 174 of the Indian Penal Code (non-attendance in obedience to an order from a public servant), the case has been subsequently amended to include Section 302 of IPC (murder), as informed by an officer to PTI.

Assuring a thorough investigation, police authorities have pledged to apprehend all involved parties expeditiously. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, underscoring the imperative for swift justice and stringent measures against such acts of violence.
