Arunachal: Mini Marathon Held in Itanagar Promotes Cleanliness and Environmental Conservation

Northeast Desk, 2nd October: Hundreds of participants took to the streets of Itanagar on Wednesday for a mini marathon under the theme ‘Run for Clean Itanagar’. The event, part of the statewide ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, began at the Itanagar Municipal Corporation office and concluded at Indira Gandhi Park. The marathon was a powerful call for action on cleanliness and waste management in the city.

National award-winning athlete Jyoti Mane was among the runners and secured first place in the women’s category, adding a notable achievement to the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Itanagar Municipal Corporation Mayor Tamme Phassang said the marathon was the culmination of a week-long campaign, which included essay competitions, tree plantation, and social cleanliness drives. “Cleanliness and waste management are vital aspects of building a healthier, sustainable community,” the mayor remarked, further emphasizing the significance of the Swachh Bharat Mission, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

The tree plantation drive, conducted under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, aims to contribute to environmental conservation. Mayor Phassang urged the staff of the municipal corporation and the citizens of Itanagar to actively support the initiative for a cleaner and greener future.
