Arunachal: MLA Oni Panyang Inspects Flood-Damaged Roads, Urges Caution Amid Heavy Rains

Northeast Desk, 4th July: Mariyang-Geku MLA Oni Panyang undertook a critical on-site inspection of two severe blockage points on the Pasighat-Mariyang road, heavily affected by recent torrential rains in the Upper Siang district’s Mariyang-Geku Assembly Constituency.

The inspection focused on areas near Geying village and Pongging View Point, where substantial damage was reported due to debris accumulation and road erosion caused by the relentless downpours. Panyang directed the Public Works Department (PWD) Highway staff to prioritize efforts at Geying village, where significant debris clearance and road repair are underway. He indicated that under favorable weather conditions, the blockage could be resolved within five days, but prolonged rain might extend the restoration timeline to ten days.

Meanwhile, immediate action at Pongging View Point led to the successful clearing of the blockage, restoring traffic flow along that stretch of the road. However, Panyang cautioned travelers about residual risks associated with ongoing heavy rainfall and advised against non-essential travel to ensure public safety.

“During this period of intense monsoon activity, I urge residents and travelers to limit travel to emergencies only,” emphasized Panyang, underscoring the importance of precautionary measures.

The Pasighat-Mariyang-Yingkiong road, a crucial double-lane National Highway 513 constructed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) in 2019, serves as a vital link between various towns and villages, including those near the India-China border. Ongoing construction efforts between Yingkiong and Tuting aim to enhance connectivity and infrastructure along this strategic route.

As authorities continue efforts to mitigate flood-related disruptions, MLA Oni Panyang assured ongoing monitoring of the situation and pledged to keep the public informed of any developments.
