Arunachal: MLA Tsering Lhamu Donates Entire Salary to Destitute Home

Itanagar: Tsering Lhamu, the dedicated Member of the Legislative Assembly representing the Lumla constituency in Tawang district and also serving as the Advisor to the Women & Child Development Department, has made a remarkable commitment to the welfare of disadvantaged individuals. Demonstrating an extraordinary act of generosity, Lhamu has pledged her entire monthly salary to directly support the residents of the Deepak Nabam Destitute Home located in Senki Park, Itanagar.

The founder and devoted caretaker of the shelter, Deepak Nabam, has voiced his profound appreciation for Lhamu’s unwavering financial support. He lauded her as “a true humanist” and affectionately referred to her as “a mother to the weak and deprived.” Nabam further emphasised the significant impact of her contribution, stating, “Her dedication to helping those discarded by society truly reveals her character. We are extremely proud of her kindness and selfless service toward our vulnerable fellow citizens.”

The Deepak Nabam Destitute Home recently gained national recognition when Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the commendable humanitarian endeavors of its founder during the 118th episode of his monthly radio programme, “Mann Ki Baat,” broadcast on April 27th. The Prime Minister commended Nabam for establishing “a unique example of the spirit of service in Arunachal Pradesh.” In his address, Prime Minister Modi noted, “He runs a Shelter House at Senki Park in Itanagar where mentally unwell, physically challenged and elderly people are served,” further acknowledging that “drug addicts are taken care of here as well.”

Prime Minister Modi also shed light on the humble beginnings of Nabam’s initiative, explaining that he embarked on this compassionate journey without any external aid, initiating “a campaign to support the deprived people of the society, violence-affected families and homeless people.” What began as a solitary act of kindness has blossomed into a well-regarded organisation that has received numerous accolades for its invaluable service. The facility serves as a sanctuary, providing essential housing and comprehensive care for homeless individuals, those living with disabilities, and others in Arunachal Pradesh who have nowhere else to turn.

MLA Tsering Lhamu’s sustained financial commitment underscores a profound personal sacrifice, all in service to the most marginalised members of her community. Her selfless act provides crucial support to a cause that has now garnered recognition at the highest echelons of the national government, highlighting the power of individual dedication in addressing societal needs.
