Arunachal: NERIST and AMTRON Showcase AI-Powered Animal Care Devices at Central Cattle Breeding Farm

Northeast Desk, 13th August: The Central Cattle Breeding Farm in Nirjuli recently became the site of an innovative demonstration of cutting-edge veterinary technology, organized by the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) cell of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), in collaboration with Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. (AMTRON). The event, aimed at connecting modern technology with rural development, brought together over 40 students from NERIST to witness the future of animal healthcare.

Professor Narendranath S, Director of NERIST, highlighted the critical role of artificial intelligence (AI) in advancing animal healthcare, underscoring the importance of integrating such technologies into rural settings. “Connecting technology with rural development is essential, and AI-driven solutions offer significant potential for improving animal healthcare,” he stated.

Dr. Danjan Longri, Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development, Arunachal Pradesh, also voiced his support for the integration of advanced technology into veterinary practices, noting that these innovations could greatly enhance livestock welfare across the region.

The event featured live demonstrations by Dr. Taking Gammi, Veterinary Officer at the Central Cattle Breeding Farm, and Kalpesh Bhosale, an expert in AI-based devices. Among the technologies showcased were an AI-based tool for detecting bacterial and fungal infections in animal wounds and a smart inspection device equipped with mobile apps for real-time monitoring of bovine uterine health. These tools are designed to aid in infection detection and guided artificial insemination, potentially revolutionizing animal health management in rural areas.

Dr. T. Patel, Regional Coordinator of UBA NERIST, and Dr. M. Mishra, Coordinator of UBA NERIST, also participated in the event, contributing to discussions on the practical applications of these technologies and the potential for future research.

The demonstration concluded with an interactive session where participants explored the practical implications of the showcased technologies and discussed future research opportunities. The event is part of UBA NERIST’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable, technology-driven solutions for rural development, in collaboration with AMTRON. By ensuring the welfare of livestock, these initiatives aim to enhance the livelihood of farmers and contribute to the overall advancement of the agricultural sector.
