Arunachal: NPP Announces Candidacy for State Assembly Elections

Northeast Desk, 1st March: The National People’s Party (NPP) has unveiled its plan to field 30 candidates for the forthcoming assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh, as confirmed by the party’s state unit president, Thangwang Wangham.

Wangham emphasized that the primary criterion for candidate selection would be their potential to secure victory in their respective constituencies. He reiterated the party’s commitment to supporting the BJP government in the state, with Pema Khandu designated as the chief ministerial candidate.

As an integral ally of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the NPP remains steadfast in its support for the Khandu administration.

The party’s agenda centers on developmental initiatives, youth employment, healthcare, education enhancement, and combatting the drug menace. Wangham highlighted the imperative of fostering a drug-free society, underscoring the detrimental impacts of narcotics on literacy, employment, social harmony, and the rise of insurgency.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by the state, Wangham stressed the importance of productivity and industrial growth. He underscored the necessity of establishing industrial units to attract central allocations and stimulate economic progress.

In response to recent political realignments, where two NPP legislators joined the BJP, Wangham attributed such shifts to evolving political dynamics and voter preferences in their constituencies. He reaffirmed the NPP’s unwavering alliance with the BJP through NEDA, emphasizing that these developments would not undermine their collaborative efforts.

The ruling BJP currently commands 53 seats in the state assembly, followed by Congress and NPP with two seats each, alongside three independent members.

In the 2019 elections, the NPP fielded 30 candidates, with five emerging victorious. Tragically, one of its candidates, Tirong Aboh, fell victim to suspected militants before the election results were declared.

As the election fervor intensifies, the NPP has released its manifesto, prioritizing people-centric political and administrative reforms, educational excellence, healthcare enhancement, agricultural advancement, and creating opportunities for the unemployed youth.
