Arunachal: One man enquiry commission set up to investigate mysterious death of former APPSC official Tumi Gangkak

Northeast Desk, 17th October: A one-man Commission of Inquiry, led by former Gauhati High Court Judge, Justice H K Sarma, has been established by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to investigate the mysterious death of Tumi Gangkak.

Tumi Gangkak, a 42-year-old under secretary at the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission, was found dead under mysterious circumstances near the Ganga Lake area on February 24 of this year.

Late Tumi Gangkak was under suspension from his job due to his involvement in the APPSC paper leak case and had reportedly been summoned by the CBI on the day he died.

A murder case was subsequently registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, based on an FIR filed by his family.

The Commission’s inquiry will encompass a comprehensive review of the case, focusing on investigating the investigative procedures and ensuring adherence to legal processes.

It will also assess the accountability of officials and others for potential acts related to the case.

The Commission has the authority to recommend a fresh investigation by alternative agencies if warranted by the evidence presented during the inquiry.

In this regard, the Commission has requested written statements from various stakeholders, including the state government, district administration, officials, and the public with knowledge related to the case and its accountability aspects.

Written statements should be accompanied by an affidavit confirming the accuracy of the facts and be submitted in a digital format within a Word file.

The Commission has set a 15-day window for the submission of these statements, either in person or via registered post.
