Arunachal: Operation Dawn 2.0 Nets Heroin Peddler in Pasighat

Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh: In a significant breakthrough for Operation Dawn 2.0, East Siang Police have apprehended a 60-year-old drug peddler and seized suspected heroin, cash, and a smartphone. The arrest, a testament to the ongoing anti-drug efforts in the region, took place in Pasighat’s GTC area.

Acting on credible intelligence, the Anti-Drug Squad (ADS), spearheaded by DSP Ayup Boko, meticulously executed the operation. Obang Modi was caught red-handed with 2.46 grams of suspected heroin, ₹3,000 in Indian currency, and a smartphone. The entire process was conducted in strict adherence to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985, ensuring all legal protocols were followed, including the presence of an Executive Magistrate.

Further demonstrating their commitment to transparency and robust evidence collection, the seizure was thoroughly documented using the e-Sakshya App, complete with comprehensive video and photographic records. The accused, along with the confiscated items, has been transferred to Pasighat Police Station. A case, bearing No. PSGT/PS/C/51/2025, has been registered under Section 21(a) of the NDPS Act, and a detailed investigation is now underway.

Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba, IPS, lauded the ADS team for their swift and decisive action, reiterating the police’s firm stance on maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. He also appealed to the public for their continued cooperation, urging citizens to come forward and report any illicit drug-related activities to aid in the collective fight against this menace.
