Arunachal: Pasighat Municipal Council Organizes Successful Awareness Campaign for Cleanliness

Northeast Desk, 27th February: The Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) continued its ongoing awareness campaign to maintain Pasighat Smart City’s cleanliness and free from dirt and plastic waste. The 2nd leg of the awareness campaign took place at GTC playground on Monday, February 26, with enthusiastic participation from students and representatives from the market business community.

The event saw the active involvement of the Adi Baane Ane Kebang East Siang District Unit (formerly Adi Baane Kebang Women Wing), led by Smty Oming Jamoh Pertin, President, and Tigul Megu, General Secretary. These women leaders extended their cooperation and support to PMC in spreading awareness among the masses to keep Pasighat clean and plastic-free. Pertin emphasized the moral responsibility of every individual in Pasighat to maintain the town’s cleanliness, while Megu welcomed the gathering in her opening speech.

PMC’s Municipal Executive Officer, Onam Lego, reiterated the council’s commitment to ensuring Pasighat Township remains clean and free from plastic waste. Lego emphasized the need for collective support from all residents to achieve the goal of a beautiful and plastic-free town. The event included a drama illustrating proper waste disposal methods and segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.

Ms. Sadhna Prasad from DPVN, Pasighat, the winner of a recent essay competition on plastic usage and its menace, shared her thoughts on cleanliness. Technical expert Niku Prasad from Green Squad Society also addressed the audience. Annu Raikia, a sanitation staff member from PMC, shared her experiences and challenges while cleaning Pasighat market, emphasizing the importance of proper waste disposal.

During the program, PMC MEO Onam Lego presented a gift item to Siang Bakery in Pasighat market for using biodegradable wrappers, aligning with PMC’s appeal. The awareness campaign concluded with a vote of thanks from Municipal Secretary Tani Taloh, expressing gratitude to all participants and supporters.
