Arunachal Police Busts Interstate Gang of Thieves, Recovers Five Remote Radio Units

Northeast Desk, 12th March: A specialized team from Chimpu Police Station, under the vigilant supervision of SP Rohit Rajbir Singh and ASP Angad Mehta, achieved a significant breakthrough by apprehending four individuals involved in the theft of an Airtel Remote Radio Unit (RRU) from an American Tower Company (ATC) Tower.

The incident, which occurred on 23-02-2024 at the Gohpur Tinali, Chimpu, was promptly reported by a Site Technician from ATC, Itanagar, upon discovering the theft of the RRU. Inspector Neeraj Nishant initiated immediate action by registering a case, assigning Inspector Ongsa Ronrang to lead the investigation.

Through meticulous examination of CCTV footage, the perpetrators, hailing from Assam, were identified fleeing towards Assam after committing the theft. With swift coordination and strategic planning, the accused were traced to Guwahati on 24-02-2024. DySP Kengo Dirchi spearheaded a specialized team, conducting successful raids in Guwahati the following day, leading to the arrest of prime suspects Ankur Tacha and Ghanakanta Konwar.

Subsequently, on 26-02-2024, two additional suspects, Ritupan Tacha and Pranjal Borah, were apprehended. The operation resulted in the recovery of five RRUs valued at Rs. 15 lakhs.

Further revelations by the accused unveiled their involvement in similar criminal activities across Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The investigation remains ongoing to trace additional offenders and recover stolen property.

The successful operation, executed under the expert supervision of Rohit Rajbir Singh (IPS), SP Capital, and Angad Mehta (IPS), ASP, Capital, underscores the unwavering commitment of law enforcement authorities to maintain security and uphold justice in the region.
