Arunachal Police Net Three in Drug Bust, Seize Heroin Haul

Itanagar: In a significant blow to the drug trade, Arunachal Pradesh Police have apprehended three individuals suspected of drug peddling and confiscated over 51 grams of suspected heroin.

The successful operations unfolded on April 19th as part of the ongoing Operation Dawn 2.0, demonstrating the police force’s commitment to eradicating drug-related activities in the state.

The first breakthrough occurred in Nirjuli, where local police, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted two individuals riding a two-wheeler in the Dikrong Colony area.

The apprehended suspects have been identified as Almaz Ali, aged 20, and Ajaharul Islam, aged 21, both hailing from the neighboring state of Assam. Upon thorough inspection, authorities discovered 30.42 grams of suspected heroin concealed within 12 vials and a tobacco container in their possession.

In a separate but equally impactful operation conducted near the Tarajuli railway station, Papu Hills police successfully nabbed a third suspect, identified as Roshidul Hoque, aged 27, also a resident of Assam. An initial search of the suspect led to the recovery of five vials containing suspected heroin.

Further investigation led the police to Hoque’s rented accommodation in Yupia-II, where an additional 11 vials of the illicit substance were discovered, bringing the total seizure in this case to 21.03 grams.

Law enforcement officials have registered both cases under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, signifying the seriousness with which these offenses are being treated. Superintendent of Police (SP) Naharlagun, Shri Mihin Gambo, IPS, lauded the police teams involved for their prompt and effective execution of these operations. He further emphasized the unwavering dedication of the Arunachal Pradesh Police to aggressively combat drug trafficking and ensure a drug-free environment in the region.
