Arunachal Police Seize 11 Trucks Loaded with Smuggled Timber
Itanagar: In a dramatic operation, Arunachal police have seized 11 trucks loaded with smuggled timber near the Assam-Arunachal border areas of Balijan and Ambikapur in the Shantipur region of Sadiya. The Roing Police intensified their crackdown on illegal timber smuggling operations, acting on a tip-off that the trucks were preparing to leave the Balijan area and head towards Assam.
A special police team launched an operation in the area, but the smugglers attempted to flee towards Assam upon sensing police movement. In a thrilling chase, the Arunachal Police successfully intercepted all 11 trucks en route, although the drivers managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
Since the trucks had already crossed into Assam territory, the Roing Police handed over the seized vehicles to the Sadiya Police for further legal proceedings. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of timber smuggling from Arunachal Pradesh through Assam, despite enforcement efforts.
The operation demonstrates the Arunachal Police’s commitment to tackling illegal activities in the region. The incident also underscores the need for sustained efforts to prevent timber smuggling and protect the region’s natural resources.
