Arunachal Police Thwart Drug Trafficking Attempt, Seize 44 Grams of Heroin
Itanagar: A daring operation by the Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) team from Miao Police Station has resulted in the arrest of two drug peddlers and the seizure of nearly 44 grams of heroin in Arunachal Pradesh.
Acting on intelligence, the ADS team set up an ambush in the dense forest area of New Yumchum village, near Miao, and intercepted the suspects around 1:45 pm.
The suspects, identified as Sanjit Kumar Chakma and Puchukala Chakma from Dharmapur 1 village, were allegedly attempting to transport the drugs to the Namphai 2 area. However, when ordered to stop, they resisted arrest, leading to a physical altercation. During the scuffle, Police Constable Ladnong Singpho sustained injuries while attempting to disarm Puchukala Chakma, who was wielding a traditional machete (dao).
Despite the resistance, the police team successfully apprehended both suspects and conducted a search, which revealed 37.05 grams of suspected heroin concealed in a soap case and an additional 6.80 grams hidden in a tobacco container, totalling 43.85 grams of the contraband substance.
This successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region’s remote areas. The Arunachal Pradesh police have demonstrated their commitment to disrupting the supply of illicit substances and ensuring the safety of the local community.
