Arunachal Pradesh Accelerates Power Grid Expansion for Reliable Supply

Itanagar: Namsai witnessed a pivotal high-level review meeting, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, focusing on the ‘Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening the Transmission and Distribution System.’ The core agenda centered on fast-tracking efforts to guarantee a dependable and efficient power supply, particularly for the state’s remote and underserved areas.

Deputy Chief Minister Mein emphasized the scheme’s critical role, stating that Arunachal Pradesh’s rapid advancement in the power sector, driven by numerous ongoing hydropower projects, necessitates a robust transmission and distribution infrastructure for timely power evacuation and delivery. The meeting involved a thorough assessment of the scheme’s progress, the identification of key obstacles, and a strong call for time-bound project completion. He specifically urged Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL) to accelerate pending works under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), emphasizing the importance of close collaboration with district administrations and the power department, alongside active involvement from local elected representatives for seamless implementation.

In a move signaling tangible progress, the Deputy Chief Minister announced the commissioning of three significant power infrastructure projects: the 33 kV side of the 132 kV Niglok sub-station, the 33 kV Niglok–Ruskin Line, and the 33 kV Oyan Sub-station. The meeting also addressed localized challenges across various districts and explored strategies to expedite infrastructure deployment to match the state’s escalating energy demands.

Chowna Mein reiterated the government’s unwavering dedication to transforming Arunachal Pradesh into a power-surplus state, ensuring equitable access to quality electricity for all its citizens. The meeting saw the participation of Minister Gabriel D. Wangsu, Deputy Speaker Kardo Nickyor, Advisor to Minister (Power) Jikke Tako, HMLAs, CMD PGCIL, R K Tyagi, PCCF P Subramanium ji, Secretary (Power), R K Sharma, CGM-SJVN, HOP AHEP Shiv Prasad, DCs, Chief Engineers (Power), and senior officials from PowerGrid, underscoring the collaborative effort to achieve the state’s energy goals.
