Arunachal Pradesh and Assam Enhance Air Connectivity with New Flight Services
Itanagar: In a significant move to improve regional connectivity, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced today the launch of new flights operated by Alliance Air between Tezu and Guwahati.
The service, which will run four days a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—aims to bolster the state’s economic growth and enhance travel convenience for residents and visitors.
“This service will further strengthen connectivity and boost the state’s economic growth,” Khandu stated, expressing his enthusiasm for the new route, which is expected to promote tourism and business opportunities in Arunachal Pradesh.
Earlier in the day, Assam Cabinet Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma inaugurated the resumption of flight operations from Rupsi Airport. The ceremony was marked by the traditional lighting of a lamp, symbolizing a new beginning for the region’s connectivity.
Starting today, flights will operate three days a week—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—connecting Guwahati and Kolkata via Rupsi. Sandeep Patil, the officer in charge of Rupsi Airport, confirmed that Alliance Air would manage these operations under the central government’s UDAN scheme, with plans to extend service to five days a week later this month.
Passenger flight services at Rupsi Airport initially commenced on March 7, 2021, under a three-year contract with the airline “Fly Big,” which offered three weekly flights using a 72-seater aircraft. Due to rising demand, this frequency was later increased to six days a week.
However, operations were abruptly suspended on November 7, 2023, by “Fly Big,” leaving travelers in a difficult situation. The resumption of flights from Rupsi Airport, coupled with the new Tezu-Guwahati route, represents a commitment to enhancing air travel in the Northeast region of India, paving the way for improved accessibility and growth.
