Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Celebrates 50 Years of Democratic Legacy with Golden Jubilee Inauguration
Itanagar — The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly marked a historic milestone as it completed 50 years of democratic governance, with Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik (Retd) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurating the Golden Jubilee celebrations at the state capital.
The ceremony, held in the Assembly complex, began with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Governor Parnaik, formally launching a series of year-long events to honour the institution’s half-century journey. Speaker Tesam Pongte felicitated the Governor, Chief Minister Khandu, and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein for their leadership and unwavering support of democratic values.
More than a ceremonial occasion, the event reflected on the Assembly’s evolution from Arunachal Pradesh’s early days as a union territory to its emergence as a full-fledged state, championing the rights and representation of a diverse population spread across challenging geographies and rich tribal cultures.
Highlighting the cultural and emotional resonance of the moment, Chief Minister Khandu released a specially composed theme song that narrates the democratic journey of the state while celebrating its unique cultural identity. The song, rich in symbolism and sound, aims to inspire unity and forward momentum as the Assembly steps into a new era.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Parnaik stressed the significance of public service and the solemn responsibility shouldered by elected representatives. “The trust placed in each representative comes with the responsibility to ensure that our words lead to tangible action and upliftment of the people,” he said.
The event was not only a tribute to the Assembly’s past but a reaffirmation of its future vision — one anchored in transparency, inclusion, and commitment to good governance. The Golden Jubilee observance is expected to continue throughout the year with public engagements, cultural showcases, and policy dialogues that spotlight Arunachal Pradesh’s democratic progress and aspirations.
As the state reflects on five decades of legislative maturity, the milestone serves as a reminder of the Assembly’s role in shaping Arunachal Pradesh into a vital and dynamic part of India’s democratic fabric.
