Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Passes Key Bills on Land Eviction and Floodplain Zoning
Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Assembly on March 7 passed two crucial bills aimed at addressing unauthorized land occupation and managing flood-prone areas in the state. The legislative move underscores the government’s efforts to enhance land governance and disaster mitigation.
The Arunachal Pradesh Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Bill, 2025, introduced by Land Management Minister Balo Raja, was passed by voice vote. The bill amends the existing Arunachal Pradesh Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act, 2003, strengthening provisions to facilitate the removal of unauthorized occupants from public properties. The government views the amendment as a necessary step to protect state-owned land from encroachments.
In another significant development, the Arunachal Pradesh Flood Plain Zoning Bill, 2025, introduced by Water Resources Minister Biyuram Wahge, also received approval through a voice vote. The bill focuses on regulating floodplain zoning of rivers to mitigate the impact of floods and ensure sustainable land use in vulnerable regions. The initiative is expected to provide a structured approach to managing riverine areas and reducing risks associated with flooding.
Additionally, the assembly adopted a government resolution to amend the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Act, 2024, aligning state policies with the latest legislative changes enacted by Parliament. The resolution highlights the government’s commitment to environmental protection and water management.
The passage of these bills marks a step forward in Arunachal Pradesh’s efforts to address key land and water management challenges, reinforcing the state’s legal framework for sustainable development.
