Arunachal Pradesh Authorities Crack Down on ILP Violations, Deport Individuals
Itanagar: The Naharlagun Police in Arunachal Pradesh have launched a large-scale enforcement drive to ensure compliance with the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system. During the operation, individuals found violating the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) of 1873 were deported.
The crackdown, conducted in key areas including Naharlagun, Nirjuli, Papu Hills, and Banderdewa, involved rigorous ILP verifications. Naharlagun Superintendent of Police, Mihin Gambo, confirmed that multiple violations were detected, and legal action was taken.
“The visitors were thoroughly verified, several violations were detected, and legal proceedings were initiated under BEFR,” Gambo said in an official statement. The BEFR, a law dating back to 1873, regulates the entry of non-residents into protected areas of Northeast India and requires Indian citizens from outside designated regions to carry an ILP.
Authorities have urged visitors from outside the state to obtain and carry valid ILPs while in Arunachal Pradesh, warning that non-compliance will result in legal consequences, including deportation. The police have reiterated that compliance with the ILP system is mandatory, and violators will face strict action.
