Arunachal Pradesh: Chimpu Police Crack Down on Tobacco Sales Near Schools

Northeast, July 21, 2024: In a determined effort to curb tobacco sales near educational institutions, the Chimpu Police Station team, led by SDPO Itanagar Kengo Dirchi, OC Inspector Neeraj Nishant, SI S K Jha, and ASI Manish Kumar, conducted surprise inspections of shops within 100 meters of school premises. The operation, supervised by SP Itanagar Shri Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS, targeted areas around VKV School, SLSA, KV2, and other nearby schools.

Deputy Commissioner Shri Talo Potom, IAS, joined the raid, issuing stern warnings to shopkeepers found in violation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). He emphasized that repeated infractions would result in strict legal action.

“This initiative is crucial for safeguarding the health of our school children by eliminating the availability of tobacco products near their learning environments,” Deputy Commissioner Potom stated.

The crackdown underscores the administration’s commitment to creating a safe and healthy atmosphere for students in Itanagar.
