
Arunachal Pradesh CM Announces Rs 100 Crore Funding Boost for State Police
Itanagar: During the 52nd Raising Day celebration of the Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) at IG Park, Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced a significant funding boost of Rs 100 crore for the state’s police force, supplementing its existing budget. The additional funds aim to enhance modernization efforts and address the growing needs of law enforcement personnel.
In his address, Khandu emphasized the state government’s commitment to reforming and modernizing the police department, urging the Home Minister and Director General of Police (DGP) to devise a comprehensive plan for effective utilization of the allocated resources. He also reinforced the importance of maintaining peace as a vital indicator of societal progress and development. “Peace is the cornerstone for uninterrupted development,” Khandu stated, highlighting its crucial role in the state’s growth.
The Chief Minister reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, assuring that under his leadership, corruption would not be tolerated in any form. This message reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to instill accountability within the public sector.
Additionally, Khandu introduced the state’s Comprehensive Surrender Policy, designed to encourage youth to abandon insurgent activities and reintegrate into mainstream society. He urged district police forces to support this initiative, motivating young individuals to steer away from violence.
Khandu also addressed the issue of drug abuse, emphasizing the police’s role not only in arresting traffickers but also in preventing addiction and supporting rehabilitation efforts for affected youth.
Reflecting on the progress made during his tenure, Khandu outlined several key initiatives aimed at strengthening the APP. These include the enhancement of the ex-gratia amount for martyred police personnel to Rs 50 lakh, alongside a guaranteed government job for their next of kin. He also noted the approval of Special Grade promotions for Constables, Head Constables, and Assistant Sub-Inspectors, ensuring better career progression for the force.
The Chief Minister highlighted other achievements, such as the recruitment of nearly 3,000 police personnel, the acquisition of over 1,600 vehicles for operational efficiency, the installation of CCTV systems in all police stations, and the transformation of the Central Jail into a modern Correctional Home. Furthermore, Khandu emphasized the establishment of Mahila Police Stations, a permanent NDRF Battalion at Hollongi, and the training of over 1,100 volunteers under the Aapda Mitra program.
