Arunachal Pradesh CM Launches Online Water Bill Payment Pilot in Itanagar
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on August 5 launched a pilot project for online water revenue payment in Itanagar, marking a significant step toward digitising essential public services across the state.
The initiative, implemented by the Public Health Engineering & Water Supply (PHE&WS) Department, allows residents of the Itanagar Capital Region to pay their water bills through an online platform, eliminating the need for long queues and physical visits to government offices.
“For the people in Itanagar Capital Region, paying a water bill no longer means taking half a day off work or standing in a long queue. Now, it’s just a few taps on a phone, a few clicks on a screen,” Khandu wrote in a post on X.
Joined at the launch by Home Minister Mama Natung, who also holds the PHE&WS portfolio, and advisor Pani Taram, Khandu described the project as a “citizen-first reform” that embodies the government’s vision of transparency, efficiency, and digital empowerment.
He emphasised that the move is not limited to Itanagar alone but is part of a broader effort to bring online water connection, billing, and grievance redressal systems to all district headquarters. “Whether you live in the hills of Tawang or the plains of Namsai, you deserve public services that are fast, transparent, and hassle-free,” the chief minister said.
The online billing system is expected to be gradually scaled up across the state, forming a core component of Arunachal Pradesh’s inclusive digital infrastructure strategy aimed at bridging the service delivery gap in remote and rural areas.
