Arunachal Pradesh Flood Situation Improves, Thousands Still Affected

Itanagar: The flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh has shown signs of improvement, with water levels in most rivers receding on June 7. However, around 33,000 people across 24 districts remain affected, with many regions in Itanagar facing a drinking water crisis.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), 33,200 people in 215 villages are still reeling from the impact of floods and landslides. Twelve people have lost their lives, and one person is reported missing in rain-related incidents since the monsoon set in.

The floods have caused extensive damage, with 515 houses destroyed, 432 livestock deaths reported, and 112 roads and 17 bridges damaged. Additionally, 51 water supply projects, 17 power transmission lines, and eight hydro projects have been affected.

Changlang district is the worst-affected, with six villages inundated and 2,231 people rendered homeless. Flash floods have disrupted connectivity between Miao and Bordumsa, and authorities have started ferry services for locals.

Relief and rescue efforts are underway, with support from the NDRF, State Disaster Response Force, police, and local volunteers. Three relief camps have been set up, providing shelter to 239 people. The authorities are working to restore essential services, including water supply and connectivity, in the affected areas.
