Arunachal Pradesh Governor Urges ITBP to Foster Community Collaboration for Border Development

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik has called on the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) to work closely with local communities and law enforcement to enhance the development of the state’s border areas under the Vibrant Border Village programme.

During a meeting with ITBP’s Inspector General of North East Frontier Headquarters, Amitabh Gupta, at Raj Bhavan, the governor highlighted the dual benefits of such collaboration: bolstering national security while improving the quality of life for border communities.

Drawing from his extensive experience in border management, Governor Parnaik emphasized the importance of actively involving local populations in development initiatives. He suggested that this approach could foster a sense of ownership and cooperation, further strengthening the border’s security and resilience.

The governor also stressed the need for regular training, effective patrolling, and well-coordinated drills to ensure the highest levels of border security. He acknowledged the ITBP’s commendable efforts in the region and urged the organization to actively recruit local youth into the armed forces, providing them with opportunities for employment and service to the nation.

Parnaik additionally requested that the ITBP prioritize timely humanitarian assistance during emergencies, ensuring swift and effective responses in the challenging border terrain.

Inspector General Gupta, who recently assumed charge of the North East Frontier Headquarters, assured the governor that the issues and recommendations discussed during their meeting would be addressed promptly.

The Vibrant Border Village programme, which aims to develop infrastructure and enhance the livelihood of communities in border regions, remains a key focus in Arunachal Pradesh’s strategic initiatives. The collaboration between the ITBP, local authorities, and communities is expected to play a pivotal role in the program’s success.
