Arunachal Pradesh Honours 25 Police Officers for Exceptional Service

Itanagar: Twenty-five police officers in Arunachal Pradesh received special recognition for their outstanding contributions to combating narcotics and other critical law enforcement areas.

The felicitation ceremony, led by Home Minister Mama Natung, highlighted the officers’ tireless efforts in maintaining law and order, particularly in the state’s War Against Drugs.

SDPO Kengo Dirchi and IPS officer SP Rohit Rajbir Singh were among those honoured for their pivotal roles in the successful operation that led to the capture of notorious drug kingpin Rohit Basumatory. Natung praised the officers’ relentless efforts, acknowledging Director General of Police Anand Mohan’s leadership in these initiatives.

The awards recognised officers for excellence across multiple fronts, including narcotics enforcement, timely resolution of Chief Minister Helpline complaints, suicide prevention interventions, and technical investigation support. Operation Dawn, launched in November 2023, has yielded impressive results, with 354 cases registered, 534 arrests made, and the seizure of 9,557 kilograms of narcotics valued at approximately Rs 38 crores.

Arunachal Pradesh’s broader anti-narcotics campaign has also shown significant progress since 2019, with 1,452 registered cases and 2,619 arrests. Authorities have seized 18,600 kilograms of psychotropic substances worth Rs 75 crores, while destroying over 56,000 acres of illegal opium poppy cultivation and 1,723 acres of cannabis plantations.

Natung reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to continuing these enforcement efforts, stating that the fight against narcotics trafficking will proceed “with full force” toward the goal of establishing Arunachal Pradesh as both drug-free and crime-free.
