Arunachal Pradesh Hosts Inaugural International Sangken Festival
Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh – The Golden Pagoda in Namsai district today became the vibrant epicenter of cultural and spiritual confluence as the first-ever International Sangken Festival commenced. This three-day event marks a significant milestone for Arunachal Pradesh, showcasing its rich traditions on a global platform.
The opening day of the festival was characterized by captivating performances and age-old rituals, fostering a strong sense of togetherness among attendees. Sangken, a significant celebration for the Tai Khamti, Singpho, and other Theravada Buddhist communities, heralds the traditional New Year and embodies themes of renewal, purification, and optimism. Devotees participated in the sacred practice of pouring water, symbolizing the cleansing of negativity and the ushering in of positive energy, while offering heartfelt prayers for peace, prosperity, and unity.
The inaugural ceremony witnessed the esteemed presence of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who lauded the festival as a testament to Arunachal Pradesh’s diverse cultural tapestry and profound spiritual heritage. Also in attendance were Minister Ojing Tasing, Minister Dasanglu Pul, MLAs Chow Zignu Namchoom and Tapi Darang, alongside numerous senior officials and distinguished guests from various parts of the region.
In his address, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein emphasized the significance of the festival, stating, “Sangken embodies our deep-seated spiritual customs and the cherished values of compassion and harmony. Elevating this celebration to an international level not only safeguards our precious heritage but also positions Arunachal Pradesh as an attractive destination for cultural tourism.”
Set against the tranquil backdrop of the Golden Pagoda, a revered symbol of Buddhist faith in the region, the festival is scheduled to continue for two more days. The itinerary includes a diverse array of cultural exhibitions, traditional culinary delights, captivating folk dances, and enlightening spiritual discourses, anticipating a significant influx of both domestic and international visitors.
The International Sangken Festival is anticipated to evolve into a prominent cultural landmark, celebrating the enduring Buddhist heritage and the peaceful spirit that defines the Northeast region.
