Arunachal Pradesh Karate Contingent Shines at National Championship
Itanagar: The karate team from Arunachal Pradesh has delivered an outstanding performance at the 7th All India Wado-Kai National Karate Championship, securing a total of 17 medals in Darjeeling, West Bengal. The state’s martial artists won eight gold medals, five silver medals, and four bronze medals over two days of intense competition from May 31 to June 1.
Ajay Rotom was the standout performer, claiming double gold in both kumite (sparring) and kata (forms) categories. His flawless execution showcased the technical prowess of Arunachal’s training programs. Other notable performers included John Dodum, who won gold in kumite and silver in kata, and Ekhya Riang, who secured gold in kumite and silver in kata.
The junior division was particularly successful for Arunachal, with Sadu Jeram winning gold in kumite and bronze in kata, Takar Guha earning silver in kumite and gold in kata, and Kyaling Nilo claiming gold in kumite. Senior category competitors also made a significant contribution, with Likha Taka, Bamang Niglar, and Kunal Das adding to the team’s impressive tally.
Yarda Niki, president of the Arunachal Wado-Kai Association and the Arunachal Pradesh Amateur Karate-Do Association, praised the athletes’ dedication and technical excellence, congratulating them on their remarkable achievement.
