Arunachal Pradesh Launches Student Buses to Enhance Higher Education Access
Itanagar: In a major push for accessible education, Arunachal Pradesh’s Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona flagged off four new student buses on February 21.
These buses will serve government colleges in Daporijo (Upper Subansiri), Roing (Lower Dibang Valley), Deomali (Tirap), and Doimukh (Papum Pare), easing transportation challenges for students from remote areas.
During the launch, Minister Sona detailed broader education reforms, including a three-year development plan focusing on infrastructure, teacher training, and curriculum improvements. He also warned of stricter oversight on private schools, noting that 35 institutions were recently fined for non-compliance.
Director of Higher and Technical Education Milo Rai Modi confirmed that the initiative aims to extend transportation services to all 19 government colleges. “We have secured funding for both the procurement and maintenance of these buses,” he said.
Beyond education, Minister Sona condemned the recent assault on an Arunachalee student in Delhi, assuring that North East NGOs and police are actively investigating the matter.
He also highlighted Arunachal’s growing tourism appeal, celebrating its recognition as the Best Off-beat Mountain Destination. However, he stressed that infrastructure alone is insufficient and called for improved hospitality services.
In a final announcement, Sona revealed plans to introduce Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for school uniform distribution, addressing past challenges with quality and delivery in remote regions.
