Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Opens Budget Session with Key Bills

Northeast Desk, 20th July: The Budget session of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly began on Friday with the introduction of three significant government bills aimed at strengthening the state’s legal and administrative frameworks.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu opened the session by presenting the Arunachal Pradesh Public Examination (Measures to Prevent Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill. This legislation is designed to combat irregularities and unfair practices in public examinations for state government positions, including roles in autonomous bodies and corporations. The bill stipulates stringent penalties for examination malpractices, including imprisonment of three to five years and fines up to Rs 1 crore. It also proposes the creation of a special court to expedite trials related to these offences.

Law, Legislative and Justice Minister Kento Jini introduced the Arunachal Pradesh Amending Bill, which aims to modernize the state’s legal framework by replacing outdated legal references with contemporary statutes. The bill proposes substituting terms from the Indian Penal Code 1860 and other antiquated laws with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Samhita 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adiniyam 2023.

Land Management Minister Balo Raja also tabled the Balipara/Tirap/Sadiya Frontier Tract Jhum Land Regulation Bill in its amended form. This bill represents a significant update to land management policies in the region, addressing various aspects of land regulation and management.
