Arunachal Pradesh Minister Dasanglu Pul Announces Hostels for Working Women Across All Districts

Arunachal: Arunachal Pradesh Women and Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul has announced plans to establish hostels for working women in all 28 districts of the state.

This initiative aims to provide safe accommodations and, where possible, day-care facilities for the children of working women in urban, semi-urban, and rural areas where employment opportunities exist.

Pul highlighted that the government has allocated funds under the 2024 Budget Estimates (BE) to construct Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) quarters in each district, further strengthening the state’s infrastructure to support women and children.

Addressing social concerns, Pul made a notable appeal to tribal women from Arunachal Pradesh who marry non-Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe (APST) individuals. She urged these women to adopt their husbands’ surnames, citing both social and legal considerations.

“You can love and marry anyone from any state or country, but using your own surname instead of your husband’s is a sign of disrespect toward your spouse and, in legal terms, is a violation,” Pul stated. She emphasized the need to address issues related to the offspring of such unions and outlined government efforts to implement laws preventing misuse of Scheduled Tribe status.

The minister’s announcement underscores the government’s commitment to supporting women’s welfare and addressing evolving social dynamics in Arunachal Pradesh. The hostels for working women are expected to significantly enhance opportunities for women’s employment and empowerment across the state.
