Arunachal Pradesh Minister Pushes for Border Fencing to Curb Infiltration and Insurgency
Northeast Desk, 27th August: Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung has made a strong case for the fencing of the state’s international borders, urging Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take immediate action to curb infiltration, insurgent activities, and illegal cross-border movements. Natung highlighted the strategic importance of the northeastern state, which shares borders with Bhutan, China, and Myanmar.
In a meeting with Amit Shah in New Delhi, Natung emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and secure fencing along the international borders, which stretch 1,680 km in total. He also submitted a proposal for the TCL 2.0 package, aimed at bolstering the state’s police force by enhancing infrastructure, mobility, and equipment in the troubled Tirap, Changlang, and Longding (TCL) districts.
In a post on social media platform X, Natung wrote, “Called on Hon’ble Union Home Minister GoI @AmitShah Ji at his official residence, New Delhi today and briefed about high vigilance on inter-state check gates & secure fencing over international borders.”
Natung also detailed the state’s efforts to strengthen security at inter-state check gates, particularly in response to the political crisis in Bangladesh. Measures include strict checks of inner line permits (ILP) and the recent integration of Aadhaar cards with e-ILP systems.
The minister stressed the importance of consolidating the gains from the TCL 1.0 package, which had already enhanced the capabilities of the state police. The revised TCL 2.0 proposal, according to Natung, focuses on further developing infrastructure, improving mobility, and upgrading equipment for law enforcement agencies in the region.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured Natung that the proposals would be given due consideration, with the goal of achieving a positive outcome for the security and stability of Arunachal Pradesh.
