Arunachal Pradesh Police Arrest Three with Suspected Heroin Worth ₹4.5 Lakh

Northeast Desk, 10th August: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Arunachal Pradesh police have arrested three individuals in possession of suspected heroin valued at ₹4.5 lakh. The arrests were made near Shiv Mandir in Itanagar, where law enforcement officers seized 32.79 grams of heroin.

Capital Superintendent of Police, Rohit Rajbir Singh, disclosed that during interrogation, the accused admitted to being involved in drug peddling since 2023. They revealed that they allegedly procured the narcotics from Harmuti, Assam, and distributed them within the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).

A case has been registered against the three under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, further intensifying the state’s ongoing efforts to curb drug-related activities.

This incident follows another recent arrest on August 7, when a woman was apprehended by a local women’s group and police flying squads for selling drugs from her grocery shop in Naharlagun. The woman, identified as a member of the Doke clan of the Galo tribe, was reportedly working with her husband, who had been secretly smuggling drugs through the shop.

The Arunachal Pradesh police continue to intensify their operations against drug trafficking, aiming to dismantle the networks responsible for the illegal trade in the region.
