Arunachal Pradesh Police Constable Arrested for Molesting Woman Near Itanagar Police Station

Itanagar: A police constable in Arunachal Pradesh has been arrested on charges of molesting a woman near the Itanagar Police Station, officials confirmed. The incident came to light after a viral post on social media alerted the police about the alleged crime that occurred on the night of November 6.

Capital Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh stated that the police were made aware of the situation when the social media cell received an alert about a woman being molested by a policeman near the station. Taking immediate action, the police traced the victim and her parents. Though initially hesitant to file a formal complaint, the victim, a 19-year-old woman, agreed to proceed after being counselled by the police.

According to the victim’s statement, she had gone to the police station late at night to charge her mobile phone. Despite repeated offers from the duty officer to drop her home, she declined. After leaving the station, she was followed by an individual to a poorly lit area a few hundred metres from the police station, where the alleged molestation took place.

The victim confided in a friend, who later posted about the incident on social media. Following the post, an investigation was launched, and the constable was arrested. Singh expressed regret over the incident, emphasizing that the safety of women and children remains the top priority for the police. He assured that swift legal action would be taken against the accused to set a strong precedent.

Singh also urged the public to report crimes, highlighting that people can contact the police through social media or the emergency helpline 112 if they feel hesitant to visit the station in person.
