Arunachal Pradesh Police Net Five Drug Peddlers, Recover Over 140 Grams of Heroin

Itanagar: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, coordinated efforts by police teams from Banderdewa and Naharlagun police stations in Arunachal Pradesh resulted in the arrest of five individuals involved in the illegal drug trade on May 7th.

The operations led to the seizure of a substantial quantity of suspected heroin, totaling 140.15 grams, along with two vehicles utilized for the illicit activity.

The first breakthrough occurred in the Prem Nagar area, where a team from Naharlagun Police Station, acting on specific intelligence and led by Inspector Krishnendu Dev, successfully apprehended Md. Sariful Islam, a 36-year-old resident of Bihpuria, Assam. Upon his arrest, authorities recovered 48.7 grams of heroin.

Continuing their investigation based on the initial lead, the police team further apprehended two more individuals, identified as Md. Shaik Farid, 24, from Lakhimpur, and Md. Ashraful Islam, 23, hailing from Laluk, Assam. The arrests took place in the Kankarnallah area following a brief pursuit. An additional 24 grams of heroin and a Bajaj motorcycle, allegedly used for smuggling the contraband, were recovered from their possession.

In a parallel operation, a special team from Banderdewa Police Station, acting on confidential information, intercepted a Maruti SX4 vehicle at the Banderdewa Check Gate. During the interception, the police detained Miss Kirry Riba, 23, a resident of Nirjuli, and Techi Maj, 27, from Lekhi. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 66.75 grams of heroin from Miss Riba’s possession.

Both successful operations were carried out under the direct supervision of Superintendent of Police Naharlagun, Mihin Gambo, IPS, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Naharlagun, Rishi Longdo. In the aftermath of these seizures and arrests, separate cases have been officially registered against the accused under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, signifying a strong commitment by the Arunachal Pradesh Police to combat drug-related crimes in the region.
