Arunachal Pradesh Police Seize 230 Kilos of Cannabis in Major Anti-Contraband Operation
Northeast Desk, 3rd November: In an operation against the illicit drug trade in Arunachal Pradesh, Doimukh police have successfully confiscated a substantial quantity of cannabis, totaling 230 kilograms in weight, with an estimated market value of several lakhs of rupees.
This operation unfolded following reliable intelligence received by the Doimukh Police on October 31. The information indicated that a vehicle en route from Kalaktang in West Kameng district was transporting a significant quantity of cannabis, with the intention of selling it in the Itanagar market.
Acting swiftly, a team from the Doimukh Police station intercepted the vehicle at Hara Hapa and uncovered approximately 108 kilograms of cannabis. They also apprehended a suspected drug peddler, identified as Mohammad Rashidul Islam, hailing from Udalguri district. The arrested individual was subsequently presented before a local court and remanded in custody for seven days.
During the course of the investigation, the detained individual disclosed crucial information about the source of this large cannabis supply. In response, a police team proceeded to Kalaktang, where they arrested the primary cannabis supplier, identified as Phurpa Tashi Langla. A further 118 kilograms of cannabis were seized from this individual.
In total, law enforcement authorities have seized a staggering 226.723 kilograms of cannabis. This significant haul carries a substantial street value, emphasizing the need for rigorous anti-contraband efforts in the region.
